DSP WEEK 2018!
We truly hope our direct care staff enjoyed DSP Appreciation Week 2018. Many of you won some great prizes. We had treats for everyone at the office all week and the admin staff delivered goody baskets to all of the programs. Many of our give-aways came from generous donations from Cross Insurance, Anthem, MetLife, Dennison’s Auto Care, Massage Envy, The Home Depot, and MEMIC.
We had one last surprise for all of our DSPs and PMs. After a decade of constant cuts, as a result of literally years of advocating for increased funding for developmental services, our collective efforts paid off. The Maine legislature finally heard our call and voted on a budget that would allow us to increase wages for direct care staff. GMS has always been one of the highest paying agencies in Maine for DSPs, and we are committed to keeping our wages highly competitive. Over the last year we gave two across-the-board wage increases for DSPs. The first was .50 cents and the most recent was .25 cents. We’ve been able to do this as a result of fiscal responsibility and lean administrative costs. At the end of DSP Appreciation week, I was thrilled to announce that GMS would be increasing DSP hourly wages by $1.00!
What do we ask from you in return? Demonstrate your commitment to our mission: Improving the quality of life of the individuals we serve by supporting their independence. Be a positive member of whatever team you’re on. Be part of solutions. Talk with your supervisor about how you can improve your performance and further your career goals. Talk with your supervisor or a member of the senior administrative team about how you can help make GMS the best place to work. Ask yourself daily, “Did I do my best?” We are a growing agency with frequent job opportunities and we’re always looking for the right internal candidate. We want YOU on Team GMS for a long time!
Our executive director, Ann-Marie Mayberry, started her career at GMS nearly 30 years ago as a DSP. Every director and department head at GMS started out working in direct care. We all know your job well and we all appreciate YOU!
I also want to remind everyone about our DSP level system. All of our DSPs have the opportunity to increase their pay through training compliance and longevity with the agency. Please SComm or email me with questions about this.
