Position Descriptions

  • The responsibility of the Direct Support Professional (DSP) is to provide a safe environment, to include support and supervision to all persons living in a GMS home or in their own home or apartment. The DSP is responsible to work with individuals, encouraging growth and independence while demonstrating dignity and respect to each person served. The DSP’s work is driven by the GMS Mission to improve the quality of life by supporting independence.

    Minimum Requirements: High School Diploma or GED. We are willing to train the right individual! A valid driver’s license with a good driving record is required for most positions. This position requires the individual to earn a DSP Certificate within six months of employment with GMS.

  • This position is designed as a stepping stone to a manager position. Some experience in the field is expected. A willingness to act as a positive role model and coach to DSPs in the home is required. Participation in management training is a vital part of this position. Some administrative responsibilities are assigned to this position. Residential Care Coordinators must have a driver’s license and good driving record.

  • The Float Direct Support Professional position requires significant flexibility in schedule and experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, or other related conditions. The float receives a schedule every two weeks that varies greatly in time and location. The Float must be willing to work with a varied population as this position meets the needs of homes that require staff due to open positions or vacation time. The Float DSP is compensated at a higher rate and guaranteed full time hours.

  • The Residential Manager is responsible for all aspects of the programs which they supervise. Balancing care and planning with employee training and supervision is a goal for the position. Managers are expected to have an ability to problem solve and exhibit independent thinking. Management training is offered. Most positions include some direct care time in the home.

  • The Community Case Manager (CCM) is responsible for maintaining and/or seeking services for all individuals assigned to their caseload. All services will be directly linked to an individual served driven needs model. The CCM is required to facilitate effective relationships with all persons served, promoting empowerment, community inclusion and health and safety. The CCM will develop positive relationships with provider agencies, and guardians; assisting all parties in identifying support strategies that can guide the individuals served to reach their goals. The CCM will be responsible for developing and/or ensuring adherence to the Person-Centered Plan and Individual Support Plans.
