I have had the unique perspective of having been both an employee of GMS for 9 years, and now having my daughter reside in a GMS home. Choosing GMS as home for my child is a testament to my belief that GMS stands out as a safe, nurturing environment that will allow my daughter the opportunity to have her needs met as well as empower her to follow her dreams and be a part of her community.

Residential Services

GMS offers residential services to individuals through a tailored treatment approach at several group homes in Greater Portland. Our agency firmly believes in meeting the needs of the whole person, recognizing that care and treatment will vary greatly not just from home to home but also for each person. While GMS serves only adults with intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and other related conditions, we realize the diversity in the population and strive to offer individualized support in a number of areas.

GMS offers homes with Direct Support Professionals who have:

  • ASL proficiency for the deaf or hard of hearing;

  • Increased training in mental health for those homes serving dual-diagnosed individuals;

  • Access to a Registered Nurse to consult regarding medical needs;

  • A wealth of experience and resources in serving an aging population, including Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Each individual participates in a Person Centered Planning process and tailored individualized support plans are incorporated to ensure our dedicated employees are assisting individuals served in meeting incremental goals to achieve long term success. Community integration is a primary goal of GMS for all individuals supported, regular activity and socialization opportunities are promoted and day programs, volunteering and employment are encouraged.

We support 200+ adults in their homes and in the community!

My sister was a GMS consumer for about 20 yrs. The staff always treated her with dignity and respect. She loved them like family. Who could want more for their loved one? GMS is exceptional.
